ALAN MANN RACING FORD PREFECT 107EAdvert ID: 40496 POA
It was Goodwood that refired Alan Mann’s racing passion. Having been a legendary privateer in the 1960’s, he had dropped out of motorsport for 30 years to concentrate on building up Fairoaks Airfield into a highly successful business. In 2003 he was invited to race at the Goodwood Revival in an Alan Mann Racing liveried Lotus Cortina and then Rowan Atkinson’s Falcon. According to his son Henry, now proprietor of Alan Mann Racing “He got completely wrapped up in it all over again” and he soon regrouped the old dream team of Brian Lewis, John Gray, Jim Morgan and Grahame Goudie to look after the rebirth of Alan Mann Racing. The team bought back old cars where they could and built new cars including a Ford GT40, Mustang, Cortina, Escort and Capri on a no-expense-spared basis. All were in Alan Mann livery and are still actively campaigned to this day. With Alan Mann’s health declining, he sadly had to hang up his helmet and stop racing with his old partner Sir John Whitmore. With Goodwood still being the great love, AMR decided to build a racer for the 1950’s St Mary’s Trophy at the 2012 Goodwood Revival and keeping loyal to Ford chose to build a Ford Prefect 107E. Sadly the legendary team owner and driver died before seeing it race at the Revival, making this the last ever car built under his direction.
Like all his cars, there was no budget – simply the desire to build the best! Built with an extremely hot 1300 pre-crossflow engine and set up by a team with a history steeped in success, this is the ultimate 1950s saloon. Henry shared the car with former AMR ace Jackie Oliver and BTCC star Matt Jackson before selling the car to celebrity chef James Martin. James has continued to race the car at Goodwood with his co-driver, fellow TV star and Touring Car legend Jason Plato.
The car is stunningly prepared and comes with its V5 documents showing James Martin and Alan Mann Racing Limited/Alan Mann as the previous owners. This car is ready for Julius Thurgood’s popular and friendly HRDC Series and of course the Goodwood Revival. Celebrate the 60th anniversary of BTCC this year with a car built by a legend of the sport and wearing an even more iconic livery.
