SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI GROUP A RALLY CAR – might break for parts

£45,000 O.N.O

Description

A one of a kind Group A Impreza for Sale or possibly for breaking. It currently has a DCCD unit fault and whilst at a motorsport garage being fixed it’s had lots of interest in the parts, so I’m torn which way to go. I’d rather not see it broken but if I get enough interest I will, as I need as much money as I can get for it. I’ve owned the car 3 years, I never thought I’d sell but the opportunity to purchase my dream house has forced my hand.

This is not by any means a show car – it’s a gravel monster, but I do have springs and wheels for a tarmac setup too.

This is a well known car in the scene and has a lot of history behind it. Its heyday was in the late 2000’s when it was built with no expense spared funded by Greenergy and Tesco to promote 99 octane. (hence the private REG) and to take on the infamous Peugeot Cosworth of Andrew Burton, much like Burton’s car it was built to be very lightweight (sub 1200kg) so anything that’s not needed has been removed, including the dashboard. The car spent most of its time in the top 5 (20+ times) including winning the Wales GB national in 2010 with the builder and then driver Nigel Griffiths. This car was driven by Colin Macrae at an event held by Tesco for all their big wigs to celebrate that big win.

The car differs from normal Imprezas in that it still runs the wheel speed sensors – this is because the DCCD has been mapped through the Motec controller. It has had 100’s of hours of mapping done at Phil Price Rally School by both Phil and Nigel to get the car to behave differently in different circumstances, it will vary the ratio of torque from front to back depending on the circumstances, this makes it really special to drive, so much so that Alister Macrae went on to drive it at a test day at Phil price rally school.

The car sat for sometime but was then fully rebuilt in 2020 including an inside and outside respray and I was lucky enough to buy it in 2021. I was and still am an amateur driver with only a few rallies under my belt, but my first outing in this car and in any 4wd I managed a top 20 at the Woodpecker Rally followed up by a top 10 at Rally North Wales. It’s a serious bit of kit and very capable in the right hands.
