Description
Simply stunning historic RS1600 spec Mk1 Escort ready to use! Built from an immaculate 1972 shell to full historic specification by Bob Dowen. No replacement panels were used to build this car (the originals were mint). Beyond the bodyshell every part on this car is unused and has ZERO miles, and with ‘period’ modifications carried out to historic specification.
Bodyshell
Fabricated by Bob Dowen, the shell is seam welded and strengthened with gussets; chassis skids; strengthened bulkhead and alloy firewall. The shell is fitted with a large gearbox tunnel and is 5 linked with short 4 link bars and Panhard Rod; round turrets; Group 4 World Cup Cross Member; Ralloy strut brace; large radiator mounts and 4 jacking points. Works style, steel ‘big wings’ and steel boot, bonnet and doors finish the shell along with an FIA approved Safety Devices bolt in cage, with rear diagonals. Shell is finished in Blue, with satin black interior.
Engine
Full historic spec, all new Trevor Morris dry sumped BD engine only been dyno run with spec and dyno sheet, running all alloy Nikasil block with Lumenition ignition and twin 48 Webers fed via twin facet fuel pumps and filter king, with Tony Law exhaust manifold – all protected by a large alloy sumpguard.
Drive train
Car is fitted with the excellent heavy duty Tracsport/ Quaife 4 speed gearbox with alloy main case and 2.2 1st gear driving through a single piece propshaft to a fully floating twin taper narrow Atlas axle, with 4.6 crown wheel and pinion and ZF Motorsport LSD and heavy-duty half shafts and flanges, alloy diff guard and brace. The alloy bell housing houses an AP Racing twin plate paddle clutch.
Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Car is fitted with Group 4 adjustable Bilstein front struts complete with 300/70 inserts, 250lb springs and roller bearing top mounts, with Rix Group 4 alloy front hubs, and double width kit and heavy-duty anti-roll bar. Group 4 turreted Bilsteins are fitted to the rear with slipper springs. Brakes run through a Group 4 adjustable bias pedal box and fly off hydraulic handbrake, with AP Racing brakes fitted to the front and rear with 4 pot calipers and vented discs fitted to the front and 2 Pot calipers (footbrake and handbrake) and solid discs fitted to the rear. Steering is via a Quaife heavy duty, 2.5 turn quick rack with Group 4 knuckle.
Other bits
Inside the car runs a custom-built wiring loom with Elliott and Racetech gauges fitted in a twin cowl ‘works style’ dash, with electric Cartek cut-off and electrically operated and plumbed in fire extinguisher plus handheld. Car is fitted with Sparco intercom and Cobra Imola seats are fitted with TRS 6 point lightweight harnesses and OMP steering wheel (seat; belts and extinguishers are all in date). Goodrich fittings and Aeroquip hoses have been used throughout along with Ralloy alloy fuel and dry sump tanks. Car sits on 7×13/ 8×13 minilite/ revolution wheels with Group 4 inserts, wheel studs and nuts. Comes with spare set of wheels.

The car is log booked and has Motorsport UK historic papers, has just been serviced and spanner checked and ready to use. Car can be viewed in South Wales by arrangement.
