Ex-Works MK1 Escort Touring Car LVX 947J
ADVERT ID: 72486
Description
For Sale: LVX 947J – Ford/Boreham, BP/British Vita 1971/72 ETCC Group 2 Saloon Car Racer
A rare opportunity to acquire one of Ford’s historic works racers with extensive provenance.
This is LVX 947J, a factory-prepared Ford ETCC Group 2 saloon, originally campaigned in 1971/72 by Yvette Fontaine and other Ford works drivers. In 1973, it was even used as Björn Waldegård’s Monte Carlo Rally Recce Car – making it a piece of true motorsport history.
The shell was prepared by RSD in Malton, Yorkshire, with outstanding brazing and fabrication work. Much of the hard work is already done: tanks, suspension, and mountings are complete, making it an excellent candidate for a dry build.
Key Features:
-
Rolling shell, complete with genuine Ford Motorsport magnesium Minilites (mint, tested, X-rayed & sealed).
-
2.0 BDG engine (complete, in parts – minus crank & rods).
-
ZF Motorsport gearbox.
-
Correct torsion bar rear suspension & axle (requires internals).
-
Comes with V5C, chassis tags, and has been in current ownership for over 10 years.
The Opportunity:
This car represents a unique chance to finish a project at the perfect stage:
-
Historic racecar
-
Tarmac rally build
-
Museum restoration
Asking price: ~£90,000 (negotiable without engine & gearbox).
It likely needs a further £50K investment, but its potential value as a finished car is £200K–£250K.
A genuine slice of Ford Motorsport heritage, waiting for its next chapter.
