MGB FIA Race Car

To Be Auctioned

Description

1964 MGB FIA Race Car – Professionally built to a high specification and exceptionally well maintained, this 1964 MGB FIA Race Car is offered from conscientious long-term ownership and benefits from recently renewed FIA papers valid until 2035. Eligible for a wide range of prestigious historic racing events across the UK and Europe, it represents an excellent opportunity for both seasoned competitors and those new to historic motorsport.

First launched in 1962, the MG B quickly became one of the most successful and beloved sports cars of its era. Its timeless styling, affordability, and mechanical simplicity made it a favourite among enthusiasts seeking accessible open-top motoring. Today, the MG B remains one of the easiest classic sports cars to maintain, supported by a thriving network of specialists and readily available spare parts.

The MG B has long been a fixture in motorsport, with countless examples competing in historic events worldwide. Its balance, reliability, and cost-effective running make it an ideal choice for both club and national-level racing.

A recent highlight of the MG B’s enduring appeal is the introduction of the Generations Trophy, a race series celebrating family teams made up of drivers from different generations. The inaugural event, held at Silverstone in October 2025, was a tremendous success and will become a full series in 2026. The event attracted over 20 cross-generational MG B teams, including notable names such as Andy and Nicole Wolfe, Patrick and Aimee Watts, Richard and Isabel Hammond, and Nick and Harry Whale.

This particular example is a 1964 ‘pull-handle’ MG B built to full FIA specification by the renowned MG Motorsport Ltd of Hertfordshire. It comes with a comprehensive history file documenting previous ownership and competition use, including a period of campaigning by Kathy Sherry before being acquired by the current owner in September 2024.

The FIA papers are valid until 2035. The fire extinguisher was serviced within the last 12 months, and both the seat belts and seat remain in-date for competition. As with all race cars, prospective buyers are encouraged to verify the condition and compliance of safety equipment such as the roll cage, fuel tank, and ignition cut-off systems.

Power comes from a 1,798cc engine rebuilt by MASS Race Engines shortly before the vendor’s purchase, with approximately 14 hours of running time since. Maintenance has been carried out both in-house and by MG Motorsport, including a gearbox overhaul and replacement of a half-shaft (supported by invoices). The car has proven competitive and reliable in events including Equipe GTS, CSCC, Classic K, and Swinging Sixties races.

Presented in what appears to be Tahiti Blue, this MGB is beautifully detailed and accompanied by an assortment of spare parts, including a distributor, coils, side lamp, Cobra Monaco seat, six spare wheels, and various additional components.

Professionally prepared, well maintained, and accompanied by long in-date FIA papers, this MGB represents a superb opportunity to acquire a highly eligible and competitive historic race car with excellent provenance.
