Description

1 of Only 2 Lotus Evora GTE Cars Produced – 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours Entrant

The National Motorsport Academy is proud to offer for sale an exceptionally rare and historically significant Lotus Evora GTE race car – one of only two factory-built examples ever produced, and widely regarded as the final works factory racing Lotus.

Following a 17-year absence from Le Mans, Lotus returned to the world’s most prestigious endurance race in 2011 with two Evora GTE cars entered into the fiercely competitive GTE-Pro class. Developed as part of a programme reportedly costing in the region of £14 million, the cars represented Lotus’ ambitious return to top-level international GT racing.

This particular car, chassis number 65, driven by Johnny Mowlem, James Rossiter, and Jonathan Hirschi, successfully completed the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours, finishing 7th in class. Its sister car, number 64, failed to finish the race, further cementing chassis 65’s significance as the sole finishing Lotus entry from the programme.

Originally retained by Lotus at the Hethel factory as part of the brand’s historic collection, the car was later acquired by the director of the National Motorsport Academy prior to the Geely takeover of Lotus. It has since remained within the Academy’s collection, serving as both a centrepiece of its motorsport activities and an inspirational educational tool for future generations of motorsport engineers and professionals.

The car is accompanied by a substantial spares package, including:

  • Spare chassis

  • Wheels

  • Body panels and moulds

  • Multiple Cosworth engines

The Evora GTE has earned praise from those who drove it competitively, with Le Mans driver Johnny Mowlem describing it as “the best car” he had ever driven.

Key highlights include:

  • One of only two Lotus Evora GTE cars ever produced

  • Considered the final works factory racing Lotus

  • Competed in the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours

  • Finished 7th in the GTE-Pro class

  • Genuine FIA GT endurance racing specification

  • Significant Lotus Motorsport provenance

  • Extensive spares package included

  • Maintained within the National Motorsport Academy collection

  • Exceptional collector and historic motorsport opportunity

Combining rarity, provenance, and genuine Le Mans history, this Lotus Evora GTE represents a unique opportunity to acquire one of the most significant modern Lotus competition cars ever produced.
